Activity Clubs and Extra Curricular Activities 2011-2012

Clubs meet on Saturdays 11:50 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.

Classes do not meet Saturdays that CLSSC is closed.

Martial Arts:Chop! Slam! Chop! Kick! Want to know real Kung-Fu?(Class meets 12:00 - 1:00)Teacher: Jennifer Tanaka, meets outdoors.

Chinese Musical Instruments**:What is Pi-Pa? What is Gu-Zheng? National renowned master from China teaches you amazingly beautiful sound of music from the orient.Teacher:Mei-Ye Ma, meets in the Library.

Scientific Handcrafts:One of our most popular! Space is limited so sign up early. How do you build a model airplane? Do you know ancient Chinese create fireworks and many other inventions? (Due to the use of glue guns and sharp tools this class has an age requirement of 9 years and older.)Teachers: Jayleen Yen and Alison Hu.

SAT II and Homework Club*:This is a great class for credit students who like to obtain more in-depth knowledge about Chinese culture. Our teacher has great patience and can help non-Chinese speaking families with their homework.Teacher: Rosie Fang.

Chinese Painting*:Your kid will touch Chinese culture through magical brushes and imagination.Teacher: Gao Xue Xue.

Westside Breeze*:This new class will help teach your kids Chinese writing, typing, and translation, and also computer graphic techniques (e.g., Photoshop).  This is a great opportunity if your kids would like to have some kind of journalistic experience.  By taking this class your child can also earn Chinese credits.  A laptop is highly recommended, but not required.  Teacher: Tiffany Yeh

Chinese Folk Dance:Do you know there are more than 300 kinds of Chinese ethnic dances? Come and learn to dance and to enjoy the colorful costumes of Chinese dance.New Teacher.

Book Club and Storytelling:Reading is always the best way to learn a language.This class provides students loads of popular Chinese storybooks or translated Chinese Books to satisfy any curious mind.Come check out your favorite books and improve your reading skills.Teacher:Joanne Tsai

Chinese Culture and History:Do you like the stories of "Three Kingdoms," or are you curious about the "Great Wall?"This class will expose you to the dramatic history of China over the last 5000 years and teach you how various historical events form the Chinese culture.Teacher: Lee Yeh Yu

Chinese Calligraphy:Learn the art of using ancient Chinese brush to create the art of writing, balance, and concentration.New Teacher

* Accepted toward 4-hour language by some schools.

Application Form Activity Club

2010 - 2011

Club Fees: $100 per school year for CLSSC students, $150 for parents of CLSSC students, $25 extra charge for non-CLSSC families. No refunds after 10/16/10. You may transfer to another club only once per school year with approval from both club teachers.Early registrants will receive 5 service points per family.

Material Fees:Some club activities require additional material fees.Fees vary and are be determined and collected by the teachers.

Language Credit:For students who need 4 hours per week to claim language credits, Chinese Painting, Culture/Homework/SAT II , and Westside Breeze are available.Please verify these classes with your regular school.Students that miss more than 2 classes per year will not qualify for credit, unless both the teacher and the activity director approve the absences in writing.Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their high school regarding policy on foreign language credits.
