Chinese New Year Celebration

Each year, we celebrate the Chinese New Year with a carnival and performances organized by our PTA.  This important cultural event at Westside Chinese School brings our families together and helps to raise funds for our school.  Our celebrations usually include singing, dancing and instrumental performances from our students, and a show-stopping lion dance.  Past celebrations have also included a carnival of games and prizes for kids of all ages, raffles, silent auctions, arts and crafts and delicious food.  Join the fun and support our school community!

Sponsorship and Donation

Dear Friend,

I am writing to ask for your support of our 2024 Annual Chinese Lunar New Year Festival on behalf of the Westside Chinese School, a non-profit organization promoting Mandarin language and culture. For over four decades, we have supported learners from the West Los Angeles community in acquiring the Chinese language and engaging with its culture and history. We are run solely by parent volunteers and our teachers and TAs are all native Chinese speakers. Since our launch until today, over 25,000 students have attended our programs. We have a strong alumni base of students who frequently return to become our teachers and TAs, and who continue to pursue degrees in Chinese studies as well as many other professional fields. Annual contributions and fundraisers allow our school to offer competitions in art and writing, as well as extracurricular courses in music, drama, calligraphy and supporting the AP Chinese experience. Our students not only become bilingual and biliterate, but come out of our program as self‑confident learners, creative thinkers/problem‑solvers, and productive global citizens with a respect for cultural differences.

Our annual Chinese Lunar New Year Festival attracts hundreds of families and businesses from across West Los Angeles and will be held in person at Grand View Boulevard Elementary School on Saturday February 24, 2024. Your tax‑deductible donation or sponsorship will be featured in our program during our event and listed on digital materials including our website and social media as appropriate.

Even with our families volunteering to keep our organization running, it is still an enormous task that takes a lot of resources. We need your support to keep our school operating and our children thriving.  With your help, we can continue to pay for the much‑needed resources that make our programs successful. Funds generated will help pay for campus rents, teacher salaries, student scholarships, books and electronic resources in the classrooms, cultural celebrations, annual competitions, community engagements and more!

Attached for your consideration is an outline of our donation and please consider a donation now to participate as a sponsor of our 2024 Chinese Lunar New Year Festival. We are happy to pick up any items or create a gift certificate for you and are available anytime to discuss mutually beneficial ways to engage in this celebration by contacting us by email at info@westsidechineseschool.com.

We greatly appreciate your consideration! Thank you for supporting Westside Chinese School and our mission to enrich our community with Chinese language and culture.

Sincerely,

Parent and Chairs of the CLSSC
The 2024 CLSSC Carnival Planning Committee
